Flights are cancelled, trains are delayed, and schools are closed across north India due to the ongoing cold weather.

Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions prevailed in several areas of Punjab, northwest Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, and east Madhya Pradesh.

The Meteorological Department said that dense to very dense fog engulfed Punjab, Delhi, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana on Tuesday, resulting in cold wave to severe cold wave conditions throughout much of Haryana, Delhi, and Chandigarh.

On Tuesday, a heavy layer of fog blanketed the national capital, extending the cold wave conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department, the temperature in the national capital was 4.8 degrees Celsius in Safdarjung and 7.2 degrees Celsius in Palam.

According to airport sources, roughly 30 aircraft going from Delhi were delayed, while 17 were canceled. Nearly 30 trains arrived late in Delhi today.

The district magistrate has issued an official order closing all schools in Patna for pupils up to class 8 until Saturday, January 20, due to the frigid weather in Bihar’s capital city. Regular sessions for classes 9th through 12th will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., as scheduled, with no instructional activities authorized after that time.
