Aamir Khan talks about why he gave up alcohol

Aamir Khan as a perfectionist has given cinephiles plenty of reasons to celebrate him and his excellent filmography. However, he’s only human and there have been moments of weakness that he has come out of with time. As the actor celebrated his 57th birthday yesterday, during a tete-e-tete session with the media, he revealed the time when he could gulp down an entire bottle of alcohol in one sitting.Speaking to a leading daily, he shared, “I want to give you good news. I used to drink sometimes, but I have decided not to touch alcohol ever in my life. Some people take two pegs and they are sorted. But I was never one of those who drank regularly. I used to drink on occasions, but whenever I did sit down to drink, I would finish an entire bottle. I felt that was not okay.”

He further elaborated on how everything should be done under control. To him, drinking so excessively did not seem right, and hence he decided to quit alcohol. Commenting on the same he said, “When you are intoxicated, you do or say certain things which you regret later ‘How could I say or do this. Not that anything major has happened like that until now, but the fact that a person is no longer under their own control, that didn’t sit well with me. Anything that doesn’t help you be in your control, you should stay away from that. Everything should be under your control. I don’t think I can control alcohol. So it’s better that I quit drinking.”As for his work, he was asked to comment on his perspective on introspection, to which he replied, “I don’t fear introspection. If I think there is a flaw, I would want to spot that, understand it and correct it… All those who I love and who love me, including you, the audience, everyone has their space. My aim is to give time to everyone, nurture every relationship, and make it better.”

Fans are excited for his next release Laal Singh Chaddha alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan releasing on August 11. The film also stars Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya.
