We cannot use jeera straight from a store-bought package for cooking.

Using store-bought cumin (jeera) directly out of the packet for cooking is entirely fine and popular in many families. Cumin seeds are a common spice in many cultures throughout the world, including Indian, Middle Eastern, and Mexican cuisines. The seeds are noted for their unique flavor and scent, which lend depth and warmth to meals.

Quality: Make sure the cumin seeds are fresh and of excellent quality. Check the package’s expiration date and ensure there are no symptoms of deterioration, such as a musty odor or discoloration.

Toasting: Toasting cumin seeds before using them might improve their flavor, but it is not always essential. Many recipes instruct you to add the seeds immediately to heated oil or other cooking mediums to unleash their flavor.

Grinding: Some recipes may call for ground cumin rather than whole seeds. In these circumstances, pound the cumin seeds with a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder. However, if the recipe asks for intact seeds, grinding them is unnecessary.
