National Science Day

Every year on February 28th, India celebrates National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of the Raman Effect by Indian physicist Sir C.V. Raman on that date in 1928. This remarkable scientific breakthrough earned Raman the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Asian to receive the award.

The day is observed to recognize the accomplishments of Indian scientists and to promote the value of science and technology in society. Across the country, various educational institutions, research organizations, and scientific communities hold events, seminars, exhibitions, and competitions to raise awareness about the role of science in our daily lives and to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science and research. The topic of National Science Day changes each year, concentrating on different elements of science and its applications.
