What is vitrectomy surgery that Raghav Chadha has undergone?

According to reports, AAP MP Raghav Chadha had a vitrectomy to avoid retinal detachment. Treatment for a variety of diseases affecting the vitreous humor—the transparent gel-like material that occupies the space between the lens and the retina—involves vitrectomy surgery. A vitrectomy involves the removal of all or part of the vitreous fluid from the eye by the surgeon.

In order to view inside the eye, the surgeon creates tiny incisions in the patient’s cornea and inserts tiny tools, such as a light source and a tiny camera. The vitreous humor is then gently removed using a suction instrument. Following the vitreous excision, the surgeon could carry out other treatments such scar tissue removal or retinal tear healing.

To preserve the eye’s form and support the retina as it heals, the eye may be momentarily filled with silicone oil or a gas bubble following surgery. In order to guarantee appropriate recovery, patients usually need to adhere to certain post-operative care recommendations, which may include placing their head in a particular way.
