Boney Kapoor to pay additional Rs 7 crores to rebuild Maidaan sets

Cyclone Tauktae has been hugely devastating for India even as the country battles the deadly second wave of COVID-19. Amongst other things, the cyclone has completely destroyed the set of Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan. This is the second time that the makers have had to incur a financial burden because of the set. Last year, the set had to be dismantled due to the COVID-19 lockdown. “The sets have been completely damaged and I will be rebuilding it for the third time,” producer Boney Kapoor told ETimes, adding: “We had to dismantle the set for the first time when the first lockdown happened, we had to reconstruct the set again and if the lockdown had not happened we would have completed the shooting of the film.”

Boney Kapoor has, reportedly, already spent a whopping amount of Rs 22 crore in the construction of the set and will have to shell out an additional Rs 7 crores to rebuild it. “The entire set is gone except the pitch. Though the pitch, too, has suffered some damage, the curator has assured us that he will manage to salvage it. But we have already incurred an expense of Rs 30cr and work is still pending,” Kapoor said. The producer has also emphatically stated that his films are for theatres and that he will be releasing the movie in cinema halls.
