Period.End of Sentence. wins best documentary at Oscars 2019

India shined bright as the Oscar 2019 when a documentary set in rural India based on mensturation stigma. The documentary is directed by the famous director Rayka Zehtabchi and is produced by Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment.

Zehtabchi in her speech said “I am not crying because I am on my period or anything. I can’t believe a film on menstruation won an Oscar.” She further added, “I share this award with the Feminist Majority Foundation, the entire team and cast. I share this with the teachers and students around the worlds – a period should end a sentence, not a girl’s education.”

The film is set up in a village named Hapur outside Delhi, where  woman don’t have access to sanitary napkins which led to girls facing a lot of health issues. The documentary moves forward with the village installing sanitary napkin vending machines and gradually the women learn how to manufacture pads. They named their company FLY.
