Actor Utkarsh Sharma Draws Parallels Between Gadar 2’s Box Office Clash with OMG 2 and Barbie vs. Oppenheimer: Believes it Should Be Celebrated

Utkarsh Sharma, the lead actor of Gadar 2, draws a comparison between the film’s box office clash with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and the recent “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.

Gadar 2 and OMG 2 are scheduled to clash at the box office on August 11. Utkarsh Sharma, who plays Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel’s son in Gadar 2, expressed in a recent interview with The Times of India that this clash should be celebrated, drawing a comparison to the box office clash between Hollywood films Barbie and Oppenheimer. The phenomenon of “Barbenheimer” occurred when Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer released on July 21 and collectively earned ₹100.6 crore nett in their first week at the Indian box office.

Utkarsh Sharma shared his thoughts on the box office clash, stating that it is a positive thing that both films are releasing together. He expressed admiration for Akshay Kumar, calling himself a big fan of the actor. Utkarsh was pleased to learn that the censor issues surrounding OMG 2 had been resolved, and he believes that such clashes should be celebrated. He cited the example of the previous clash between Gadar and Lagaan, which turned into a celebration for the audience.

Utkarsh emphasized that the purpose of the film is to entertain the audience, and it should take precedence over any controversies or negativity. He expressed the desire to recreate the festive atmosphere of cinema halls, which he believes would benefit the industry as a whole. Wishing the best for OMG 2, Utkarsh mentioned that Akshay Kumar’s portrayal of Mahadev in the film would also bring blessings to Gadar 2.

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 features Ameesha Patel and Sunny Deol in leading roles. The original film, Gadar, released in 2001, was one of Bollywood’s highest-grossing films at the time. The sequel comes after more than two decades since the release of the first installment.
